Cyril Jewels Beat Making Live On Stage
Who is Cyril Jewels exactly?
A young man by the name of Albert Cobham is "Cyril Jewels" Birth in the heart of brooklyn new york in the hospital Brookdale in East new york the year of 1990 this young man was introduced to the world of music threw the bad neighborhood he once lived in called Marlboro Projects in Coney island Nyc. Growing up to regular bad neighborhood stuff the one thing that stood out the most among other things was the music that was blasting threw the neighborhood at all times of the day week and month. It was always a hardcore feel to the vibrations in the air, you could feel the urge of something about to happen just with the Music and melodies that was floating threw the air. That only goes to say as a young lad this Cyril Jewels kid knew that music was a heavy influence upon the people !
As years went by threw the 90's the feel was always hardcore raps and heavy boom bap instrumentals, that was the whole feel the vibe the air of New york city, Around those times it was a fat black ugly as ever however rapper by the name Biggie Smalls, Crushing everything with his great lyrical skills and hard sampled beats, "It was all a Dream!" A song that the whole neighborhood would tune into and blast threw their Boom boxes all at the same time, Man just hearing those elements of the music at that age was a experience in itself.
What came to be around the teenage years of young Cyril Jewels life he had moved into a new neighborhood in Brooklyn not as rough or rugged as that place in coney island it was more secure more clam better location better setting and way more culture, this place was called "The 2nd Atlantic Terminals" about a 3 blocks from the Atlantic mall, and about 10 blocks from downtown. This new area was sweet right on Fulton St. and up an down that whole fulton street was elementary schools, stores of all kinds, shops, high school, even a college imagine that all levels of education all different types of cultures backgrounds, ways and feels. The one thing that can glue all these people together is called MUSIC! Wow!
Growing up in this new environment around the late 90's early 2000's was just what the young jeweler needed, he needed variety or culture a better structure and connection to see what the people of the world pick up on, for back in those times the music was ran buy the radio if you wanted to hear your favorite song you had to wait for it to drop only on the radio, and pop that tape cassette in and hit record at the right time, and no you were not getting the full version of the song just the radio edit with all of the Dj drops on it and no ending. Around this time young Cyril Jewels and his brother Dubble A started to write and rap their own songs over the radio songs, coming up with bogus kid storylines and fun content, it broke Cyril Jewels in, he had a chance to experiment for himself to see how to make a song and hear it out loud and see how people react, but one thing was wrong he never wanted people to hear his songs or see him write or perform, he was in a shell, shy for what reason the wrong reply if someone was to tell him he was garbage or if he couldn't do it. It never helps when you are in a field that feeds off of the people but you are to scared to get their reaction, So suddenly he called the quits only when he was getting better at it.
As those years went by from 2003-2009 Cyril Jewels always had the thing whispering in his ear about music it never failed that he thought of good raps but didn't write them, or heard of good ideas and didn't use them, his friends would freestyle but he never would, his friends would freestyle but for some reason he never could.
Then it was suddenly in the summer of 2009 He had the talk with Dubble A in front of a Check Cash'n place, he wanted to become a rapper again and make music, so the journey began, Cyril jewels and Dubble A began rapping on the Logitech webcam they had on there computer only at that time his name wasn't Cyril Jewels it was Albetheking, they began developing good rhymes again and stories but it all was just an idea it was demo's and at this time demo's were mixtapes, but for CyrilJewels his idea was to just get the idea recorded then re-record it on their own tracks because they were using old beats from old songs that wouldn't just work anymore but that tons of artist even the original killed already. So we had to think around this time the songs were starting to get inconsistent and the work time turned into leisure time which was not good at all, we went looking for beat makers/ producers around our way they're weren't any, we went stealing peoples beats off online only to get letters stating we couldn't use that content, we got some corny free beats but that wasn't going to do us any justice. So what was next ? Around 2011 it was the Birth of a new Albetheking! starting to use Reason as his main software to make beats he only made half a beat the whole 2011-Half of 2012 :) I think not more like :| what was he doing? So in the middle of the summer his cousin sent him a text about a new piece of hardware coming out he had no idea of what it was he barely made beats he only had Akai midi keyboard that he didn't know how to utilize and never looked into any other gear, But! His cousin that goes by the name of Dj Toxic sent him the New MPC Renaissance thats coming out! Whoa whats that I don't care I need it! that will propel me to where I want to be in making beats.
The MPC dropped in the market in October and Cyril Jewels got it as soon as it did! Was an amazing feeling to get a item that he had no idea what to do with it, he watched videos on Youtube over a million times with Young Guru explaining an breaking down the details of how this new hardware works but he had no idea what he was doing....That did not stop him from making a beat tho, he first beat was a sample called Strange Fruit, Oh he sampled that beat and he was happy as ever it came out pretty good for a first, then after that a beat from a loop, then next a natural beat with the lack of skill on how to play a piano he made it happen 3 good beats in a matter of 3 weeks, then full of himself he enters into a HOT 97 Beat battle in February of 2013, It was a Sample that Sitcom beat battle, And He was not ready for it at all, with 2 months to battle and the lack of work ethic and skill at the time he was set for failure, He did the best job on one beat though, he sampled Seinfeld and everyone he played it for loved it, thats the track that he's gonna kill them with ... but you think he got a chance to play it at the battle? No! He played some left field distorted sample and lost in the first round to a girl whose track was a easy one to beat. At that show he was still albetheking after that he Transformed into CYRIL JEWELS !
Developing a new sense of how to push towards something you want to be good at he increased his work ethic and started researching and refining his skills, but then every now and again he would hit a stump and not make beats for a long period of time, only making about 25 full good beats in 2 years was not a good look at all for a Producer who wants to be at the top, the lack of consistency was a trending thing that he had to break lose, but what exactly was the problem? Then he figured it out, it was the environment he was in.
Finally around 2015 He got his mind right an set on making a change, he was going to move down south and perfect the craft of making beats, so that indeed he did he relocated he started his website and started using a new DAW called Ableton, Man he got real good with the software developed a good solid work flow and started to get better and better at the craft of beat making ! But now He's yet faced with another Challenge.
